the alkaline diet reviewLots of people want to lose weight, but it’s a lot of trouble. You have to go on a strict diet, and you have to engage in exercise, and these are two things people don’t like to do. Emma Deangela, the author of The Alkaline Diet, says that you can adopt her diet plan and boost your immune system, lose weight, and even get a flat tummy, all in a relatively short period of time.

That all sounds impressive, especially since she’s including a bunch of bonus products with purchase of The Alkaline Diet. I decided to take a closer look to see what the program is all about. Is The Alkaline Diet a scam?

The Alkaline Diet Overview

The Alkaline Diet, also known as “The Acid Alkaline Balanced Diet” and “The Acid Alkaline Balance Diet,” is sold as a downloadable PDF book. You can download it immediately after purchase, so you won’t have to wait for delivery. PDF books can be read on any computer device, including most smartphones.

When you purchase The Alkaline Diet, you’ll receive the following items:

  • Alkaline Diet Manual
  • Alkaline Diet Success Journal
  • Alkaline Diet Shopping Guide
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Alkaline Diet Recipes
  • Top 10 Nutrition Mistakes
  • Acid Alkaline Food Chart

the alkaline balanced diet reviewThe Quick Start Guide is a 12 page PDF book that removes the theory about an alkaline diet from the main book and just gives you the steps that you need to follow. The Shopping Guide is a short 6 page PDF book that gives you a list of foods that are OK to eat and those that are not, along with a checklist that you can use when shopping.

The Alkaline Diet Recipes book is a 20 page book with a handful of recipes that the author recommends for maintaining your proper pH balance in your diet.

The main book for The Alkaline Diet is 112 pages, making it a relatively hefty read as far as weight loss books go. Most of the books that I’ve reviewed in the weight loss niche are about half that length.

The Alkaline Diet is divided into the following chapters:

  • Things We Put in Our Mouth – Food
  • Understanding Acid Alkaline Balance
  • Causes of Acid Alkaline Balance
  • What is your pH Level
  • The Right Food Combination Will Take Care of Your Stomach
  • Oxygen & Exercises
  • The Underlying Problem – Are You Going to Take Action?

The premise of The Alkaline Diet is that our bodies are often too acidic, as defined by the pH scale. This scale rates things as either basic (alkaline) or acidic on a scale that ranges from 0 to 14. You can test using special litmus paper strips, and anything tested that comes up at less than 7 on that scale is acidic and anything between 7 and 14 is alkaline, or basic.

the alkaline diet scamAccording to The Alkaline Diet, we need a pH balance that is alkaline in nature. A big portion of the book is devoted to an explanation of why she believes this to be so. and she says that if we adopt a diet that will turn out bodies more alkaline, many health problems will go away and further ones can be avoided.

Fortunately, adopting such a diet is not overly difficult to do, and it turns out that (surprise!) many foods that are good for you are naturally alkaline in nature, such as fruits and vegetables. Not all, of course, but many are. Other foods that we commonly eat, such as meat and dairy, are more acidic and are to be eaten in smaller quantities.

The Alkaline Diet also provides special rules for eating certain types of foods in combination, as the author says that this can be detrimental. In the cases of these specific types of foods, The Alkaline Diet recommends that you wait for a short period of time after eating one food and before eating the other one.

The list of “good” foods and “bad” foods is spelled out explicitly, both in the book and in the accompanying shopping list. The author gives examples of typical meals that are bad, being mostly acidic and then offers suggestions for altering those meals to allow them to conform more closely to the alkaline ideal.

There isn’t a proper meal plan outlined in The Alkaline Diet, just a series of general guidelines. You’re free to eat what you like, subject to the list of what is and isn’t permitted. The list of foods that are good and bad are fairly common ones to find in any diet, so you’ll be cutting back on dairy and sugar while loading up on fruits and vegetables, eating them on the schedule provided in the book.

There’s cursory mention of exercise in the book, though it is recommended. I’m not really sure how The Alkaline Diet is going to give you a flat tummy without a lot of exercise, but the author merely recommends that you find a good aerobic exercise program and stick to it.

The Alkaline Diet is reasonably well written, and much of the diet advice seems to be nutritionally sound. If you follow the advice in the book explicitly, you may well see some good results when it comes to weight loss. I doubt you’ll have a flat tummy without a lot of exercise, however. I cannot speak for whether The Alkaline Diet will allow you to have a boosted metabolism or immune system.

Pros and Cons of The Alkaline Diet

  • Well-written book
  • Good basic diet advice
  • Quick start guide a big hel

  • Way too much of the book is devoted to theory
  • No proper meal plan
  • Not enough emphasis on exercise

The Alkaline Diet Summary

the alkaline diet- thumbs upIs The Alkaline Diet a scam? No, it’s a pretty sound diet book that offers some good suggestions for what you should eat and what you should avoid. It makes a short mention of the importance of exercise, though it doesn’t really recommend any sort of program. There ae a few good and simple recipes and the shopping checklist will help a lot of buyers. You also get a few bonus books that many buyers may find to be helpful.

The Alkaline Diet is generally recommended.
