Truth About Food IngredientsLots of us are overweight, and what we eat has a lot to do with that.  A lot of people who try to eat “natural” or “organic” foods are still overweight, and they struggle to find out why.  Anthony Alayon, in his book The Truth About Food Ingredients, says that it’s because a lot of what we eat, even in supposedly “healthy” foods, are actually bad for us.

Anthony says that he discovered this on his own and he’s published a comprehensive book about the topic so that you can eat the right foods, turn on your body’s fat-burning hormones, burn off more fat in half the time, and be generally more healthy.

That’s a tall order, but I thought I’d check out the book and see if it’s all he claims it to be.  Is The Truth About Food Ingredients a scam, or is it the real deal?

The Truth About Food Ingredients Overview

First of all, The Truth About Food Ingredients is known by multiple titles.  It’s also known as 101 Toxic Food Ingredients, which is the name of the Website. The Truth About Food Ingredients, on the other hand, is the name on the book, so that’s what I’m going to call it.

The Truth About Food Ingredients is sold as a downloadable ebook in PDF format.  You can download it at any time of day immediately after purchase.  You can read a PDF file on just about any computer device, including your Android phone or iPhone.

The Truth About Food Ingredients is a 243 page book with a ton of content.  Inside the book, you’ll find the following chapters:

  • Chapter #1: Truth About Artificial Coloring and Flavors
  • Chapter #2: Truth About Food Additives
  • Chapter #3: Truth About Artificial Sweeteners
  • Chapter #4: Truth About Preservatives and Cooking Oils
  • Chapter #5: Truth About Water
  • Chapter #6: Truth About Food Labels

Truth About Food Ingredients bonusesAnthony says that he discovered how many dangerous substances are in our foods on his own, and he has since eliminated nearly all of these things from his diet.  He claims that he’s now much healthier than he was before.

The chapters in The Truth About Food Ingredients are all laid out the same way – Anthony describes a chemical, a food additive, a sweetener, a preservative, or a fat, and offers the following information about it:

  • What it’s called and where it comes from
  • What it’s used for and where you’re likely to encounter it
  • The potential harm that this substance may cause
  • Alternatives and how to avoid that substance

The Truth About Food Ingredients is well-written and well laid out.  It’s an interesting read and there are lots of graphics and photos.

The truth is that many of the substances that Anthony describes in The Truth About Food Ingredients can be dangerous, particularly those substances that are known allergens for certain people, such as gluten.  Other substances are known to be dangerous in large quantities, though questions remain about whether they’re dangerous in the amounts that one typically encounters in foods purchased at the grocery store.

Several common dyes used in food preparation, for example, are known to cause health issues, but those tests are conducted with animals in laboratory experiments where the animals are exposed to those substances at hundreds or even thousands of times the amounts that humans would normally encounter.

truth about food ingredients scamStill, it’s possible that they could have a cumulative effect, and that some people may be sensitive to those substances.

The Truth About Food Ingredients does offer some good suggestions about alternatives to these chemicals, preservatives and additives, and they seem to be worthwhile suggestions.  Obviously, you can avoid many of these substances by simply avoiding buying processed foods or foods that are packaged as “ready to eat.”  This is particularly true of preservatives and dyes, which are used to enhance the appearance of foods as well as to extend their shelf life.

If you’re buying fresh foods, you’re much less likely to encounter these substances.  In the case of the allergens, such as gluten, you can find other flours and wheat-free products on the market, though even a lot of the gluten-free products may have other dies and preservatives in them.

On the whole, The Truth About Food Ingredients is a well-written book.  If you’re one of those people who likes to take a keen interest in the nutritional value of what they eat and are even a little bit suspicious regarding some of the chemicals and additives that you find in commercially prepared foods, then you’ll likely find The Truth About Food Ingredients to be a good read.

Anthony knows that there’s a lot of reading in his book, so he suggests that you digest it over a period of three weeks.  He recommends starting by reading about Artificial Food Coloring and Flavors, progressing to Food Additives, and then reading about Artificial Sweeteners and finally Preservatives and Cooking Oils.

There’s a lot of material, here but on the whole, it’s a worthwhile read.

Pros and Cons of The Truth About Food Ingredients
