That sounds impressive, so I thought I’d check it out and see if it’s worthwhile.   Is Red Tea Detox a scam, or is it the real deal?

The download page for the program includes four online calculators that can dramatically simplify this process.  It’s definitely better than doing it with a pencil and a piece of paper!

As you can see, there’s a lot of content there.  That’s both good and bad; author Miller covers a lot of ground in this book.

As with most weight loss books, this one devotes a lot of the material to an explanation of how your body works, how your body processes the foods you eat and where most of us go wrong when we decide what to eat.

She then explains where the Red Tea Detox program can help you and how the red tea itself fits into the equation.

A Quick Start Guide would have been helpful, as you don’t get to the basics of what to do until you’re nearly 100 pages into the book, and I suspect many people would like to just “jump right in” rather than read 100 pages of background information.

red tea detox rooibos african teaThe recipe included with Red Tea Detox itself is easy to prepare, and based on the recipe given, looks as though it will be tasty, as well.  The sales page suggests that just one cup a day was what helped the author lose 41 pounds, but the actual program will require that you drink a lot more than that.

In fact, the recommended amount is about 6 cups per day.

While this diet is named after the African Rooibos red tea that the author says helped her lose weight, you’ll find that it’s only one component of a much larger program.

The book includes the recipe for the tea, including a list of all the ingredients.  Should you not have them on hand, the author also provides links where you can purchase them online.

The five ingredients are largely common items, though the tea itself is not likely something you’ll have lying around.

While the ingredients are named in the book, the author gives them clever nicknames:

  • The Fat Shrinker
  • THe Fat Storage Stopper
  • The Fat Unlocker
  • The Fat Cleanser
  • The Hunger Killer

The red tea itself isn’t the “magic” solution.  You’re not going to simply sit around all day, sipping tea and watching TV while the pounds melt away.

There is a diet component to this program as well as a recommended exercise regimen.  Yes, there it is – diet and exercise.  The three words you’ve been hearing all of your life from everyone.

Well, diet and exercise are the key to losing weight and keeping it off, and Liz Swann Miller makes no attempt to hide that in her book.

You’ll engage in some fasting, and then you’ll need to decide what you’ll be eating, based on a specific list of approved or recommended foods.

You’ll also need to determine how much you’ll be eating, and this is where a lot of people may find the Red Tea Detox to be not to their liking.

Many weight loss programs give you specific meal plans.  You’ll get lists of foods to eat, lists of foods to avoid, and then a recommended plan for a week, or a month, with specific things to eat for specific meals.

You don’t get that here.  That’s not necessarily a bad thing; you’re free to eat what you like, within certain parameters.

You’ll need to calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate) using the provided formula.

From there, you’ll determine how many calories you need to consume per day.

Then you need to calculate how many fewer calories you’ll want to consume in order to lose the amount of weight you’d like to lose.

Then you’ll need to figure out what to eat, and how much of it to consume on a given day.

For people who like flexibility, this program may work out well.  If you don’t like math, and would prefer to be told what to do and when to do it, this program may not suit you.

Fortunately, for the “high fat” phase of the program, the included 7 Day High Fat Meal Plan book will be a tremendous help, as it includes recipes that meet the programs strict requirements for calories and fat content.

The exercise program seems pretty straightforward, though the book only offers a description of the exercises, and did not include photos, illustrations, or links to videos.

It’s also worth noting that the exercises do require that you own specific types of exercise equipment – these are not simple bodyweight exercises.  You’ll need both dumbbells and a weight bench to perform these exercises.

Still, if you read the book thoroughly and follow the instructions as written, the program probably will help you lose weight.

The information seems to be medically sound, and you won’t go hungry.

red tea detox - thumbs upRed Tea Detox is a book I’m somewhat on the fence about.  While the red tea isn’t exactly the magic solution to weight loss that the Website suggests, the book is well-written and easy to follow.

If you read the book and do what it says in the manner described, it will probably allow you to lose some weight.

The entire program may be more work than most people will want, as there’s no overall meal plan.  You’ll have to decide what to eat at every meal and calculate how much to eat in order to follow the plan exactly, though online calculators are provided to help you do this.

Red Tea Detox is recommended, but it may not be for everyone.
