Spiro Koulouris, the author of Gout and You, says that you can fix this problem yourself by following his special diet outlined in his book. He also says that you’ll see lower uric acid levels in 60 days or he’ll give you your money back. That sounds interesting, so I thought I’d take a closer look and see what the book is all about. Is Gout and You a scam?

Gout and You Overview
This program is sold as a downloadable ebook in PDF format; you can download the book immediately after purchase. In addition, you can read a PDF book on nearly any computer device, including a smartphone or a tablet computer.
There are no bonuses included with your purchase, though that’s not necessarily a negative. Most bonuses included with health books are either of little value and are thrown in just to give you the impression that you’re getting more for your money, or they have content that should have been included in the main product in the first place.
The approach taken in this book is that you can largely minimize the problem, if not rid yourself of it, by changing your diet and by engaging in regular exercise. Of course, engaging in regular exercise can be difficult if you’re crippled by gout, since inflammation of the joints, especially those in the feet, are among the most common symptoms. Swollen feet can make it difficult, if not impossible, to even walk, so getting some exercise could be even more difficult for someone suffering from gout.
That’s why this program concentrates on diet. When you read the 223 page book, you’ll find the following chapters:
- Chapter 1:Fat, Protein & Carbs…Getting the Facts Straight
- Chapter 2:Coronary Heart Disease—The Number One Human Killer & Its Link With Gout
- Chapter 3:Preventing Cancer – What You Should Know As a Gout Sufferer
- Chapter 4:Preventing High Blood Pressure & Diabetes While Suffering From Gout
- Chapter 5:What Foods Can We Eat In A Gout Diet Plan & To Prevent Other Diseases?
- Chapter 6:A word about Tophi
- Chapter 7:Big Pharma and the Greedy Food Companies
- Chapter 8:The Importance of Exercise for Gout Sufferers
These eight chapters take up just the first 25% or so of the book; the remainder of the book, or some 150+ pages, consists of recipes.
The first part of Gout and You gives you an overview of gout, its history, its diagnosis, its causes, and the methods that current medicine uses to treat it. The author devotes a lot of space to criticizing modern medicine, and the pharmaceutical industry in particular, in creating medicines that may treat the symptoms, but not the cause, and which might have side effects that you may not want.
It’s possible that the author of Gout and You is correct, but it’s also possible that he’s just saying unkind things about the pharma industry in order to justify the treatment options in his book, which primarily consist of diet.
The recipes that make up the bulk of the book are easy to prepare and appear to be quite tasty. You’ll see recipes for:
- Chicken Breasts Roasted with Honey, Pine Nuts and Thyme
- Couscous Salad with Dried Cranberries and Pecans
- Backed Pasta with Zucchini and Mozzarella
- Grilled Veal Chops and Zucchini and Rosemary
- Pasta Nicoise Salad
- Eggplant and Potato Ragout with Feta Topping
- Risotta Primavera
- Cheesy Pita Pockets
As I said, the recipes are all easy to prepare, don’t require unusual ingredients and are likely quite tasty. They’re heavy on carbs, and relatively low on fats and protein. This, the author says, will help you get your uric acid levels down and will likely cause you to have fewer gout attacks.
It’s worth saying that you should talk to your doctor if you believe you have gout and before you try the methods outlined in Gout and You. It’s possible that you might have some other condition, so it’s best to get a medical evaluation first.
On the whole, Gout and You is a good read, though the author does have a tendency to rant against the pharmaceutical industry. I’ve reviewed a couple of books about gout lately, and while I preferred the Gout Diet Guide to Gout and You, this book will likely help anyone who has a problem with this painful condition.
