Brad Gouthro, creator of Awaken the Abs Within, says it’s not that hard, and if you use his program, you can lose belly fat, get some tight abs, and do it without starvation diets, hours of boring cardio workouts, or having to do thousands of crunches. That sounded interesting, so I thought I’d take a closer look and see if the program is worthwhile. Is Awaken the Abs Within a scam, or is it a good program?

The main Awaken the Abs Within book is pretty substantial; the other books are just a few pages each, and the worksheets and journals could have been combined into a single book. Still, marketing is what it is, and the more things you can offer for the price, the more likely the buyer is to think they’re getting more for their money.
The main Awaken the Abs Within book runs a whopping 186 pages; it’s quite a long read. It’s not necessarily a boring read, though, and the program is a somewhat complex one. Every author of diet books has their own theories of what works best, and Brad is of the “eat meals often” school. That’s fine; some go with that and others avoid it, just as some programs say you should skip breakfast and others, such as this one, suggest that you should never miss that particular meal.
As with most diets, Awaken the Abs Within recommends that you avoid foods that aren’t overly helpful – alcohol, sugar, processed foods, most grains and junk foods. What you want is a good mix of protein, fat, a bit of carbs, and lots of water and vegetables.
If you’re one of those people who wants a specific meal plan that tells you exactly what to eat for each meal for every day of the program, the Awaken the Abs Within system may not be for you.
If you’re math-phobic, Awaken the Abs Within is probably not the program for you, as there’s going to be a lot of calculation and journal-keeping involved in keeping track of what you ate, when you ate it and what kind of workout you’ve done and when.
Nearly half of the book is devoted to the exercise program, and it’s fairly rigorous. Brad believes in High Intensity Interval Training, rather than cardio, though you’ll be doing a bit of HIIT, a bit of cardio, some resistance training, and, of course, a regular routine of exercises especially created for your abdomen.
The exercises are straightforward and well explained, though you will have to have access to some gym equipment, such as free weights, dumbells, kettlebells and a Swiss ball. If you belong to a gym, this will be easy for you, but otherwise, you’ll likely need to find a source of these items for your exercises.
All in all, the Awaken the Abs Within program is solid and well-written, though many buyers may find it a bit too complex for them. There are many exercises, lots of routines and plenty of things to keep track of using this system. Still, if you stick with it and follow the guide precisely, I have no doubt that you’ll get good results.
